Impacts of the Covid-19 Pandemics in Nigeria

Few weeks after the outbreak of Covid-19, IFRA-Nigeria launched a research project on the impacts of the pandemics in Nigeria. This unprecedented situation demanded a fine analysis based on social sciences and the humanities, backed by first-hand data collected both during and after the crisis. Between May and September 2020, IFRA-Nigeria offered small grants to support researchers based in Nigerian institutions. Six projects were selected to implement data collection projects on Covid-19 in Nigeria. The safety of the researchers was a vital criteria of selection and none has put their health or security in jeopardy in order to conduct their research.
Thus, between January and May 2021, the institute supported five Nigerian researchers to conduct additional fieldwork and publish in the IFRA-Nigeria Working Papers Series.
Finally, between July and October 2021 and with the support of the French Embassy in Nigeria, IFRA-Nigeria commissioned a short documentary on the economic impacts of Covid-19 on Nigerian workers.
The team of researchers was coordinated by Dr Cyrielle Maingraud-Martinaud, who also deposited the data on Nakala. Dr Elodie Apard, Ms Clémentine Chazal, Dr Vincent Hiribarren and Ms Juliette Reflé were also involved in supervising the research and editing the Working Papers.
